Celebrate National Nutrition Month with Clinical Nutrition and The Farm at St. Joe

March is National Nutrition Month.

We have great events planned for the entire month. Each Wednesday at the Farmer’s Market, we will be offering different samples of healthy recipes. We will also feature produce from The Farm on our patients’ menus and in The Market Cafe. If you haven’t signed up to follow our blog, please do so as we will feature daily topics of interest related to nutrition and well-being.

St. Joseph Mercy Health System is committed to improving the food we purchase and serve to our patients and staff. The hospital has signed the Michigan Good Food Charter, the Michigan Hospital Association’s Healthy Food Hospital’s Campaign and Health Care Without Harm’s Healthy Food Pledge. Our Farm brings us one step closer to being able to offer our patients food that is truly healing. For example, we will feature Tuscan kale in a heart-healthy, potato kale sausage soup.

Our produce is grown in fertile soil without the use of pesticides. Did you know kale is considered a super-food because it offers a rich source of vitamins and minerals? In particular, kale provides vitamin A (as beta-carotene), vitamins B6, K and C in addition to iron, calcium, and fiber. We hope you will try our soup on Wed. March 7th in the Market Cafe.
